Learn To Create A Song On The Spot!

Guess what? Anyone can make up a song in the moment and we’re going to show you how!

Laura will be working with improv musician Win Meyerson on four eveings of play and song, guiding you through a series of confidence-building mini-steps and improv games -- all designed to free you from the self-judging mind and spark your accidental ingenuity. No prior improv experience necessary! A no-pressure foray into spontaneous song creation. Not a natural rhymer? Can’t carry a tune? No problem. A desire to laugh and sing is all you need.

The wonderful Win Meyerson has improvised music for TV shows including the British version of “Whose Line is it Anyway?” and “Random Acts of Comedy” (Fox). He played 10 years of song improv classes at The Groundlings in LA, and accompanies local improv groups including “The Gentlemen Basterds" and “3 For All".

Improv for Introverts

Curious? Read an article about Improv for Introverts here!

Have you heard a lot about how fun improv is and how much value it can add to your life and thought, too bad I can’t do that? This intro offering from ZipLine Improv might be for you if you are intrigued by what you’ve heard but have been intimidated by any of the following:

  • I don’t like attention

  • I can’t compete with “funny”

  • I’m not fast/loud/clever

  • I don’t like groups

Now consider these benefits:

  • Lose self-consciousness

  • Trust yourself

  • Open to your unique creative flow

  • Connect with others

  • Laugh a lot

While the improv foundations remain the same as our other classes—games and exercises designed to get us out of our heads and into the moment—our approach will be tailored for those of us who need a little more time to get out of our shells.

Of the class, Rachel W says: You know what's the first great thing about going to a class called ''Improv for Introverts?" It's that when you first walk in on your own to a room full of strangers, what is usually a challenging moment for any introvert is just ... not. Because you know that everyone else in there is probably feeling the same!

The second great thing about Improv for Introverts is that it's taught by Laura, who creates a safe, calm, supportive space to laugh, to try things out, and to learn. In years of studying improv, I don't think I've ever been to such a calm improv class, and it was incredibly refreshing. We worked on the value of listening, of being present in the moment, and of taking our time in scene work. I highly recommend it to any introverts out there who secretly desire to make that leap into improv. Laura makes it a lot less scary than our minds can!

Dates: 4/7/19

Beginning Improv: Exploration (6 weeks)

For those who wish to discover what the magic of improv can do for them and what they can bring to it, this class series is like our Intro, only explored in more depth over a 6-week period, allowing us to start building a foundation of understanding and ease.

The series will be full of games and exercises that get us out of our heads and over ourselves, teach us to fail cheerfully, and have ridiculous fun doing so — all while beginning to create scenes and learning the basic elements that make improv work.

We will also dispel the myths that you have to be quick or outgoing to do improv; all you need to do is show up, open up and let yourself be a bit silly… then watch your confidence grow in all areas of your life.

Coach: Laura Wachtel

Dates: 2/26, 3/5, 3/12, 3/19, 3/26, 4/2

Intro to Improv Goodness!

If you’ve ever wondered if improv is for you, here’s a great opportunity to check it out! (Spoiler: It IS for you.) Classes are for anybody and everybody, whether you're interested in eventually performing or in just getting out of your own way.

Working through shyness, learning to communicate in new ways, patience, listening, generosity...and a hefty measure of laughter. All these and more are benefits of doing improv.

For those with little or no experience, this introductory one-time class will consist primarily of games and exercises that are playful and engaging—getting us out of our judging minds and into the moment. Within these games we will discover some of the basic, foundational elements that make improv work.

Caution: Improv may be addictive or habit-forming!

While the improv foundations remain the same (see Intro to Improv Goodness!) and our classes in general are meant to be a safe space for discovery, our approach will be tailored for those of us who need a little more time to get out of our shells.

The instructor herself is an introvert who learned over time through improv how to work with her own sensitivities and to gradually take more risks, and she considers improv a pivotal force in altering her perceptions of who she is and what she’s capable of.
